Sundays Always Comes

Notable Sermons Preached The Sunday After the 2024 Election

Acknowledge, ‘I am afraid. I’m not sure. Acknowledge anger, but sin not. God is saying this is not the time to slink quietly into the night. God says you need to be active in your faith and active in life. God says I want you to build. I want you to settle down. I want you to eat what you produce. Seek the peace of the place where you live. Pray for your country. This is not a moment. It's a season. I will preach [that] God still has a plan for you, not to harm, but to prosper you and give you a future and a hope.  -    Bishop Vashti Murphy McKenzie, president of the National Council of Churches

Sermon: "The Designated Driver for the Inaugural Ball"

SERMON LINK

Preached at the Riverside Church in New York on                  November 7, 2004

After all is said and done, after the election is over, we must remember, the destiny of a nation is not determined entirely by who won. We are all still riding in the same van. Therefore, those of us who did not win, must find a role, the future of the nation is STILL in OUR hands! The people who won have a right to celebrate at the  ball, but there has to someone at that party who must pledge to being sober. Sobriety has never been more urgently needed than right now! Somebody has to be sober because you got to drive the car back home. We must remain sober and have good vision for the work ahead.

“Nothing is more powerful than the black church experience. A good choir and a good sermon in the black church, it’s pretty hard not to be move and be transported.” — Barack Obama Other Notable Sermons
