Only three African Americans have ever been elected governor in U.S. history.I have had the distinct honor of meeting each of these trailblazers.

In the nearly 235-year history of the U.S. Senate, there have been only 14 Black senators. I have met with all nine who have been elected since Reconstruction, as well as the two who were appointed. (I look forward to meeting Laphonza Butler.).
